5 warning signs your car brakes need professional help

Often we ignore the basics stating that it will go away. Mostly, it doesn’t just go away and make the problem worse. So, before it gets any worse, remember all the signs below and take your vehicle to the professional for further guidance.

· Break light on

If your dashboard displays a brake light signal, it’s either time for routine maintenance or a warning of a potential issue. For information on the causes of the dashboard indicator, consult your car’s owner’s manual.

Please note that the parking brake may be to blame in some automobiles. If the alarm disappears, let go of it.

· Grinding noises when applying the brake

When braking, a grinding sound can mean several distinct things. For instance, a rock may be lodged in the caliper assembly, or the brake pads may be completely worn out.

However, other problems might be the source of a grinding sound when braking, so you must be careful to get your automobile into a nearby auto repair shop as soon as possible.

· Soft brake pedal

A soft brake pedal is a definite indication that there is a problem with the hydraulic system. When you press the pedal, certain problems may feel soft, including air in the lines, failing calipers or wheel cylinders, a master cylinder, or a weak flex line.

The brakes should feel substantial and gradually apply, and your pedal should be strong. Your braking system is not working properly if the pedal is soft. Simple causes like low braking fluid in the master cylinder allowing air into the system could be the cause.

· Burning smell

A burning odor when braking frequently suggests overheated brakes. Stop on an immediate basis to allow the brakes to cool.

If you observe smoke coming from a wheel, the brake caliper may be jammed, and driving until it is repaired is risky.

· Leaking Fluid

When you use the brakes, several things happen at the same time. Using brake fluid to apply hydraulic pressure against the brake caliper is an important part of the procedure.

You can’t stop safely if your car doesn’t have adequate brake fluid. Have a professional inspect and check your car’s brake fluid on a regular basis.

3 car maintenance tasks to do on your own

From oil changes to tire rotation, maintaining an automobile takes a significant amount of time and money. If you see your mechanic so frequently that you consider naming them as your child’s godparent, it’s time for a change. By completing numerous car repairs yourself, you can save money and avoid trips to the technician.

You can save a lot of money by learning how to do some DIY car maintenance, and many of the repairs are simple. So, to get started, you’ll only need a few tools and a Google search. Continue reading to learn how to make some easy car repairs on your own in Durham.

1. Replace the Wiper Blades on Your Windshield Wipers

This is the primary service on your basic car maintenance checklist that lube shops frequently provide. At home, it should only take you around 15 minutes to finish. Wiper blades typically range in price from $10 to $20 at your local car parts store in Durham.

Wiper blade replacement intervals aren’t as constant as other auto parts, but if your blades are smearing or scraping when you use them, or if they appear substantially worn, it’s time to replace them.

Because installation differs by vehicle, make a mental note of how the blades fit on the metal arms before removing them. A tab removal system is normally present, and it does not necessitate the use of any tools.

2. Shake Your PCV Valve

This may appear challenging, but it is not. If your car has a PCV valve, remove it every other oil change (some late-model vehicles do not). The valve is usually found on the top of the engine and is connected to a vacuum line. PCV valves are not common in late-model automobiles, so don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t find one. Take the suction hose from the valve and throw it away. Then shake it, which is the simplest diagnostic exam in the world. If it makes a metallic clicking sound, that’s excellent. If it makes no noise or sounds mushy, it should be replaced. Replace it only if it appears to be dirty; all used PCV valves appear to be filthy.

3. Clean Your Battery Terminals

If your battery keeps dying, you may believe it’s time to replace it. Examining your battery terminals for corrosion is a good place to start. Rusty terminals can strain your charging system, necessitating the replacement of your automobile batteries over time.

If your terminals are slightly rusty, use a wire brush and a solution of baking soda and water to clean them. If your terminals aren’t clamping tightly or the copper cable leading into them has acquired green corrosion, it’s time to replace them. Terminals cost about $5 each, plus or minus a few dollars, and they may be replaced in an hour or two.
