Check Engine Light

section-2e0e99e

Your “Check Engine Light” is a warning light that has received information from a sensor connected to your vehicle’s engine control module, or ECM. It could be an indicator of maintenance needed, or it could also be a warning of a major component failure.

Each sensor that is connected to the ECM will register a code within the ECM that tells the technicians the nature of the item that needs maintenance or replacement. While reading these codes is easy, it requires expensive equipment, and many years of experience to understand exactly what is causing the trouble code to appear.

Serious and expensive damage

If the faulty part or system is bad enough to cause damage, the ECM will sometimes place the car in a “self-preservation” mode. This limits power and possibly activates other alarms. If this happens to your vehicle, you have to get it inspected immediately to avoid further serious damage.
